- The Datafile
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
-
- This short text file will explain the etiquette of Public Domain
- and Shareware. Please take a little time to read them and
- abide by them.
-
- Public Domain / Freeware
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- Essentially, PD software may be copied and used by anyone,
- although some authors place restrictions such as not allowing a
- PD library to charge more than a certain amount for the disk that
- their work is on. (Not a problem with this library). You should
- not change an authors work and claim that it is yours, give the
- original author credit. Files should not be delete, changed or
- added to any program. If an author does place restrictions on his
- work it would be best to class the software as Freeware. This
- means that you can use the software freely but the author does not
- give up the copyright on his/her work.
-
-
-
- Shareware.
- ~~~~~~~~~~
-
- These are the standard rules of shareware:
-
- a) You may freely distribute unregistered copies of the software
- to other users.
-
- b) You have a trial period to evaluate the software.
- (14 to 30 days)
-
- c) If after this time limit you are still using the software or
- intend to use it in the future then you must register with the
- author and pay any registration fee due. You are breaking the
- law if you fail to do so.
-
- d) If you do not intend using the software then you must delete
- it from your floppy / hard disc.
-
- Remember in most cases the authors of shareware have spent
- hundreds of hours creating programs of a very high quality for
- you to use. It is up to you to register and ensure that the
- author gets some reward for his or her hard work.
-
- Please note that these are the basic rules and more conditions
- may be found within the program itself or in a help/text file.
-
-
- Licenseware
- ~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- This is a form of shareware which is licensed to one or more PD
- libraries. In essence, when you buy a licenseware program you
- are buying low cost commercial software. Don't pass it around
- to your friends. You are the only one who has the right to use
- it.
-
- Please note that under British law the terms used in this text
- are not recognised. The terms originated from the USA.
